WHY CHARON PLANNING
Case Studies: Regulatory Compliance
A Mid-Atlantic university
A Charon Planning compliance review revealed
that the university's employee handbook promised lifetime benefits despite no provision
for extended coverage in the medical plan. High claim liabilities resulted from employees
who were Medicare-eligible but had not enrolled due to continuing coverage from the university.
Based on Charon Planning's analysis, recommendations and action plan, significant changes
were made to the university's policies, drastically reducing their current and future liability.
The resulting reimbursements to the carrier on behalf of
the employer exceeded $1,000,000. This directly translated into a reduced medical renewal cost
for the employer.

A large multi-state employer
As a result of their failure to take appropriate
action under a state healthcare regulation, our client was being needlessly subjected to
certain compliance standards and higher statutory surcharges. Charon Planning notified the
governing agency, contacted the client's current carriers to ensure accurate submissions
going forward, coordinated with the prior carrier to secure the return of excess surcharges
and assisted the client with the preparation of reports and documentation that needed to
be submitted to the state department of health.
As a result of Charon Planning's discovery and involvement,
the client was entitled to a refund of $75,000.
